Check yourself at the door!

In public or not, being honest with yourself is one of the most difficult things we'd have to do with ourselves. Sometimes there are times we've told the same lie too often that it becomes the truth. Imaginary mirrors are best kept individually and should have the 'in case of emergency' warning. No matter how much we'd like to believe what good things others say about us, there must be room for self check and not rely too much on arrogance or high esteem of self. An old saying goes, ones worst enemy is oneself.

There's this talk show host who'd end every interview by whipping out an imaginary mirror and ask the one being interviewed what the person would like to say to themselves. The guests would usually be good sports and start their statements, gradually getting serious and bearing their souls (tearfully). This went well for the talk show, until it became a a fad among the who's who to get to face the mirror and rake up sympathy and exposure. Eventually the host noticed the trend and felt the insincerity of those who just wanted to boost dying careers. From then on, he rarely brings out the mirror and whips it out on special people.
